Mental Health is the Greatest Wealth – Do Not Ignore, Preserve It: EMC Hospital Amritsar
Amritsar: Highlighting the importance of mental health, Dr. Moni, Senior Consultant, Department of Psychiatry at EMC Hospital, emphasized that recognizing mental illnesses and seeking proper treatment is the need of the hour. She noted that EMC’s Psychiatry Department, equipped with modern technology and an experienced team of specialists, is successfully treating a wide range of serious mental health conditions including mood disorders, psychotic disorders, eating disorders, somatic disorders, sleep disorders, anxiety disorders, child and adolescent disorders, alcohol-related disorders, substance-related disorders, and addiction-related disorders.
The treatment approach at EMC combines scientific methods, counseling, therapy, and medication to ensure that patients can return to a normal and happy life as quickly as possible.

Dr. Moni further pointed out that changing lifestyles and increasing dependence on technology have significantly impacted the mental health of today’s youth. Spending excessive time on mobile phones and social media has distanced young people from real social connections. She advised youngsters to reduce screen time, engage in face-to-face interactions with friends, share their feelings openly, and dedicate more time to activities like sports. Such practices, she explained, can help prevent stress, anxiety, and loneliness.
Emphasizing the role of parents, Dr. Moni urged that mothers and fathers should spend quality time with their children, take interest in their daily activities, and maintain strong emotional bonds. “When children receive love and support from their families, they are better able to overcome depression, anxiety, and negative emotions,” she said. Mental illnesses, she added, are no different from physical illnesses and should be treated promptly. Ignoring them can lead to severe consequences, but with the right treatment and care, patients can lead balanced and fulfilling lives.
Addressing society at large, Dr. Moni appealed to people not to treat mental health issues as a stigma but to acknowledge and address them with seriousness. She urged everyone to remain mindful of the mental well-being of their family members and community, and to seek expert help when required. “Caring for mental health is, in fact, the true key to a happy and well-balanced life,” she concluded.
