Prevention Today, Protection Tomorrow – Cervical Cancer Can Be Prevented: EMC Cradle, Amritsar
Amritsar: In view of the rapidly increasing cases of cervical cancer among women, senior gynecologists at EMC Cradle, Amritsar — Dr. Priya Gupta and Dr. Monika Maheshwari — have urged women to become more aware and proactive about their health. They emphasized that timely identification of symptoms, regular screening, and appropriate treatment can prevent and control cervical cancer. Awareness, they said, is the strongest weapon against this disease.

The doctors explained that cervical cancer develops in the lower part of the uterus and is mainly caused by Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection. This infection often shows no clear symptoms in the early stages, which puts many women at risk without them realizing it. Therefore, regular screening is essential even when no symptoms are present.
Dr. Priya Gupta stated that early warning signs of cervical cancer should never be ignored. Abnormal vaginal bleeding, bleeding between menstrual cycles or after sexual intercourse, and bleeding after menopause are key warning signs. Paying attention to these symptoms in time can be life-saving.
Dr. Monika Maheshwari added that foul-smelling vaginal discharge, persistent pelvic pain, pain in the lower back or abdomen, and pain during intercourse can also be possible symptoms of cervical cancer. If these symptoms persist, women should immediately consult a specialist.
The doctors stressed that “screening is the first step to prevention.” Through regular Pap smear tests and HPV testing, cervical cancer can be detected at an early and treatable stage. All women above the age of 21 should undergo these tests at regular intervals, even if they do not have any symptoms.
They also highlighted that HPV vaccination is a safe and highly effective way to prevent cervical cancer. The vaccine is most effective when given at a younger age, but adult women can also take it after consulting a doctor. Vaccination combined with regular screening significantly reduces the risk of developing this disease.
EMC Cradle, Amritsar, has appealed to all women to make their health a priority, include regular check-ups in their routine, and never ignore any unusual symptoms.
“Be aware today, stay safe tomorrow – defeat cervical cancer in time.”
