Subject: “No Tobacco Day” – Don’t Let Tobacco Destroy Your Health

Every year on May 31, the world observes World No Tobacco Day to raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco and to encourage people to abstain from using it. Tobacco consumption — in any form, whether cigarettes, bidis, gutkha, khaini, or hookah — not only devastates an individual’s physical health but also becomes a serious barrier to the progress of families, communities, and the nation as a whole.
On this occasion, EMC Hospital, Amritsar, appeals to all citizens to lead an addiction-free life and distance themselves from dangerous substances like tobacco. Consumption of tobacco is a major cause of cancer, heart disease, lung disorders, stroke, diabetes, and complications during pregnancy. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), tobacco causes the deaths of millions worldwide each year — many of which could be prevented with timely awareness and action.
In his message on “No Tobacco Day,” Dr. Rishabh Arora, Director of EMC Hospital, stated:
“At a time when the world is increasingly recognizing the importance of health, staying away from addictions like tobacco must be our top priority. This is not just an individual’s responsibility but a collective one. We must all raise our voices against this deadly habit. Protecting our youth from the grip of tobacco is our foremost duty — this is the true safeguard of our nation’s future.”
Dr. Arora further shared that EMC Hospital not only provides state-of-the-art facilities for treating tobacco-related diseases but also operates dedicated counseling centers, where experienced doctors and specialists support patients in quitting tobacco.
“Our mission is not just to treat, but to spread awareness and tackle the root causes of these diseases,” he added.
He emphasized:
“Tobacco is a slow poison that harms not just your body but also your mental and social well-being. Now is the time for all of us to come together and eliminate this poison from our lives, taking a step toward a healthier, cleaner, and more aware society.”
On this day, EMC Hospital, Amritsar, takes a solemn pledge:
“We will not only keep ourselves away from tobacco, but also educate and inspire others to stay away from it.”
In pursuit of this goal, the EMC team is running awareness campaigns through special programs in schools, colleges, and workplaces.
