EMC Hospital, Amritsar Organizes Awareness Campaign on World TB Day – A Significant Step Towards Tuberculosis Eradication

Amritsar, March 22: On the occasion of World TB Day, EMC Hospital, Amritsar, organized a special campaign to raise awareness about tuberculosis (TB). The campaign aimed to educate people about the causes, symptoms, prevention, treatment, and common misconceptions surrounding TB. Experts emphasized that tuberculosis is a serious infectious disease that primarily affects the lungs but can also damage other parts of the body. With timely diagnosis and proper treatment, TB is completely curable.
Senior pulmonologist at EMC Hospital, Dr. Ajay Pal Singh, stated, “TB is not an incurable disease, but awareness is crucial. It spreads through the air from one person to another, especially when an infected individual coughs or sneezes without precautions. If a person experiences a persistent cough for more than two weeks, blood in sputum, rapid weight loss, night sweats, loss of appetite, or constant fatigue, they should immediately consult a doctor.” He also highlighted that under the “TB Haraayega, Desh Jeetega” initiative by the Government of India, free TB testing and treatment services are available, and everyone should take advantage of these facilities.
Collective Responsibility for TB Eradication
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Rishabh Arora, Director of EMC Group, remarked, “The eradication of TB is not just the responsibility of medical institutions; it should become a social movement where every citizen plays a role.” He emphasized that EMC Hospital has always been dedicated to public health and continues to spread awareness about critical health issues. According to him, early diagnosis, proper medication, nutrition, and public awareness are key to eliminating TB. He urged people not to believe in misconceptions and to encourage those with symptoms to seek immediate medical assistance.
Educational Sessions and Awareness Initiatives
As part of the campaign, patients and their families visiting EMC Hospital were provided with essential information about TB. Expert doctors conducted educational sessions covering:
- How TB spreads
- Preventive measures
- Advanced treatment options
- Patient care guidelines
Hospital officials also explained that TB treatment can take six to nine months, but with the right medication and proper diet, it is completely curable. Patients must not discontinue their medication midway, as this can make the bacteria more resistant and the treatment more challenging.
Commitment to a TB-Free Society
On this occasion, EMC Hospital reaffirmed its commitment to building a TB-free society and urged the public to spread awareness about the disease. The hospital administration emphasized that early diagnosis, proper treatment, and regular medication are the most effective ways to combat TB.
EMC Hospital, Amritsar, will continue organizing such health awareness campaigns to educate society about severe diseases and ensure access to better healthcare facilities. The campaign received overwhelming support from the public, reinforcing the message that “TB will be defeated, and society will win!”
