World Diabetes Day 2024: EMC Hospital, Batala Conducts Awareness Campaign on Diabetes

Batala, November 14, 2024 – On the occasion of World Diabetes Day, EMC Hospital in Batala organized a special event focused on raising awareness about the increasing prevalence of diabetes, its causes, symptoms, prevention, and treatment. The program aimed to educate the general public and patients about this serious health condition.
Dr. Rishabh Arora, Director of EMC Hospital, highlighted that diabetes is one of the fastest-growing diseases today. It is no longer confined to the elderly but is increasingly affecting young adults and children as well. He explained that diabetes occurs when the body either fails to produce enough insulin or cannot use it effectively, leading to elevated blood sugar levels. This directly impacts the heart, kidneys, eyes, and nervous system.
Dr. Arora shed light on the primary causes of the rise in diabetes. He attributed urban lifestyles, unbalanced diets, lack of physical activity, and mental stress as key factors, along with genetic predisposition. He also warned that complications related to diabetes, such as heart disease, kidney failure, and stroke, are significant contributors to rising mortality rates.
He identified common symptoms of diabetes, including frequent thirst, frequent urination, sudden weight loss, excessive hunger, fatigue, and slow healing of wounds. He cautioned that ignoring these symptoms can lead to severe consequences.
On this occasion, EMC Hospital emphasized measures for diabetes prevention, such as regular exercise, a balanced diet, stress management, and periodic sugar level checks. Dr. Arora stated that while diabetes has no permanent cure, it can be effectively managed with proper medications, insulin, and lifestyle modifications.
During the event, EMC Hospital also hosted a free diabetes screening camp, where a large number of people had their sugar levels checked and received consultations from experts. The hospital management pledged to continue such awareness initiatives and urged everyone to prioritize their health.
