Junk Food—A Deceptive Taste, A Blow to Health! EMC Hospital’s Warning

Amritsar, December 30, 2024:
Amid rapidly changing lifestyles and hectic routines, junk food has become an integral part of our diet. While it is tasty and convenient, its prolonged consumption has deep negative effects on health, particularly on the intestines. Experts warn that junk food is laden with excessive fats, sugar, and sodium, which weaken digestive system functionality and lead to numerous illnesses.
Commenting on this issue, Dr. Rohit Dhawan, a gastro surgeon at EMC Hospital, Amritsar, stated, “The consistent and excessive intake of junk food negatively impacts the digestive system. It can cause issues like intestinal inflammation, infections, constipation, gas, and abdominal pain. Over time, it can increase the risk of severe health conditions, such as colon cancer. To maintain intestinal health, we must include fiber-rich foods, fresh fruits, and vegetables in our diet and avoid junk food.”
Dr. Dhawan also explained that the trans fats and artificial additives present in junk food damage the mucosal lining of the intestines, disrupting the normal functioning of the digestive system. He urged people to maintain a balanced diet and periodically monitor their digestive health.
EMC Hospital aims to raise awareness about the dangers of junk food and the importance of a balanced diet. Through health camps and awareness programs, the hospital supports people in adopting a healthier lifestyle.
